Hi farmazon3000,
Are you sure that there are no bonding data in the flash of the 580, in case that you ve bonded with Motorola and then you ve tried to bond with the HTC the Smart Tag will drop the connection instantly when you try to pair while it has different bonding data in its flash. Try to erase the flash before connecting to the HTC phone.
Thanks MT_dialog
Yes I am sure I follow bonding procedure and use long press on SmartTag button to erase it ("When the SmartTag is in Advertising mode, the user can ‘forget’ a bonded central device by keeping
the button pressed until a tone is heard.").
It seems that HTC M8 is the problem party here.
Hi farmazon3000,
Most of the times this is an android issue and not related to the phone, what is the versions of the android devices that you use when testing. Also please follow the below thread since both of the threads are talking about the same issue.

Which sdk version do you have? You should have the latest one.
"Which sdk version do you have?" you mean which version on Android I have. My HTC M8 has Android 6.0. Pretty much the latest.
Hi farmazon3000,
Joacimwe is asking because there is an issue with the latest android version, the pairing and bonding are failing due to a security addition in the BLE 4.2 specification in the latest android versions (Link key bit), since you are using the Smart Tag which is build with an older SDK version this is most probaly why you are not able to pair and bond with the android device. That issue is fixed in the current version of the SDK 5.0.3.

Is there an issue for that already (I mean in google's issue tracker)?
Hi farmazon3000,
I am not aware if this is reported in google's issue tracker, this was is a known issue and was fixed in SDK5.0.3.
