We're designing an audio system which can take digital audio as a input via I2S protocol and it should drive the headphones.

The DA7212 is a well used device, it has quite low IQ.
The DA7217 with differential headpone output.
The DA7218 with singled ended and headphone detect.
DA7219 with ADV headphone detec.
You also have the DA7211 to consider aswell.
The DA7212 is probably the best one to take a look at, it is quite cost effective and there is plenty of example code for the Adruino platforms.
