I'm looking to get started developing software for the DA1458x series. From what I've gathered from a couple forum posts, development under Linux is simply not supported. (This seems strange, since someone took the time to make SmartSnippets Studio run in Linux.) It appears that I will need to use Windows. If that is true, I would like to know if an unlicensed (Lite) version of Keil is sufficient. I did not see a good list of the system prerequisites for setting up the development environment, so it's unclear whether I would need to purchase the full version of Keil to get this to work.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi erichn,
For the 580/581/583 SoC the SDK (since you mention DA1458x) is available only as keil projects and this is sufficient since the device has the limitation of a 32KB OTP (the same as keil evaluation licence), so having a 580 and a keil evaluation licence its sufficient in order to develop an application. Regarding the 585 you can use the evaluation version of keil to compile and download code but the problem is the evaluation's limitation, so as long as you keep your code under 32KB (custom code and SDK) you will be able to use the Lite keil for the 585. The reason that the Smart Snippets studio exists in a linux version is because of the 68x (which uses GNU tools) and also the fact that in future SDKs releases there is going to be a GNU tools project for the 585.
Thanks MT_Dialog
Thanks for the reply! I am probably going to be using the 585.
Do you you know the general timeframe for when the SDK release will support GNU tools for the 585? I think that will be a great feature.
Hi erichn,
Most probably the GNU SDK will be released in the next SDK release, unfortunately i dont have an exact timeframe for that.
Thanks MT_dialog
Hi,
has an GNU SDK already been released?
Thanks!
Hi Firefox2005,
从洛杉矶GNU功能不支持test SDK_6.0.8.509 of DA14585. This version for the latest SDK will probably be released this month, but we don’t have an exact timeframe for that.
Thanks, PM_Dialog
Hi,
@GNU so with the next version of the SDK GNU for DA14585 is going to be supported?
@release, nice to hear!
Best regards
Hi Firefox2005,
Probably yes, GNU functionality will be supported in the next version of SDK6.
Thanks, PM_Dialog
Hi there!
Two months ago i asked about the GNU functionality.
Are there any updates? We are on the verge of firmware implementation and would prefer build on GNU / GCC.
Thanks for your work!
Hi Firefox2005,
Unfortunately there is not any update regarding the GNU/GCC functionality. If I have any further update, I will let you know
Thanks, PM_Dialog
Hi, I first went to the FAQhttps://support.dialog-semiconductor.com/guide/faq-da1458x-toolsin top right corner of this site and there it says "Additionally, latest SDK (3.0.4 onwards) supports GCC compiler." in first answer. So I installed tools for DA14585, searched for GCC and the only option when installing latest SDK for DA14585 seems to be Keil - the wizard forced me to install it, I was first thinking it was some installer bug but then I found this forum topic and unfortunately it looks like GCC is not supported despite what the FAQ says!
Please add the support for gcc (preferably) or at least fix the FAQ on this site so it is clear it is not (hopefully just yet) supported.
But why it says '3.0.4 onwards' anyway when the current one is 6.0.10 and it is still not supported? This is very confusing.
Hi fanoush,
Thanks for the indication, I will discuss it with the Team to fix this bug. As it is mentioned in this forum thread, GNU functionality is not currently supported and it might be added in next version of SDK6.
Thanks, PM_Dialog
