Is it possible to detect every time a phone comes near a module with some estimate of distance?
The module needs to do the detection. I don't care if the phone can detect. So would the module be configured as master or slave. Would it need to advertise. Would a connection have to be established.
I only want the module to say your iphone is approximately 5m away from me.

嗨Saleem, Yes this can be done by configuring the phone as peripheral and have it advertise. So some software has to be developed for the phone to have it advertise. The module can be set then as a monitor to read out the signal strength (RSSI) of the advertisement. No connection has to be established. Best regards, RvA
