16 MHz crystal characteristics

Dear Dialog,

The 16MHz crystal referenced by Dialog is 7M-16.000MEEQ-T. This seems to be out of stock. So can you please suggest an alternate part number.
In AN-B-054 DA14585_Application Hardware Reference Guidelines, it is only mentioned that the crystal should have max. ESR less than 100 ohms. But what about the other characteristics like load capacitance, tolerance, frequency stability? Will a two-pad crystal will make any difference?

Best Regards,
sr9213

Hi sr9213,

Hi sr9213,

You are able to use every xtal which has the same characteristics as the 7M-16.000MEEQ-T that is referenced by Dialog. You will find attached an excel sheet with some examples of xtal that you can use. Be aware that these are just some examples, so you can use every other xtal that is according to the characteristics of AN-B-054 document. Please let us know if you find a better suited (cheaper) xtal.

Thanks, PM_Dialog

Dear Dialog,

Dear Dialog,

Thanks for the suggestions. Below are 2 queries I have
1) This is just for my understanding purpose. Apart from characteristics, will the number of physical contacts of crystal make a difference. The referred part is having a 4 contact, if I choose a xtal with same characteristics but having 2 contact, will that make a difference?(since 2 contact xtals don't have GND pads)
2) We are planning to go with this part number - ABM9-16.000MHZ-10-D-1U-T. Attached the xtal series datasheet fro your reference. Please check and confirm if it is OK to use.

Best Regards,
sr9213

Hi sr9213,

Hi sr9213,

  1. The main difference is the shielding provided by the additional two ground pads. The 16MHz oscillator is quite sensitive, so we are suggesting a 4 pad xtals. The 32kHz xtal can be a 2 pad device.
  2. We haven’t test this kind of xtal, but it has some differences from the suggested xtals. The Load capacitance is too high (18pF) the shunt capacitance as well (max 7pF). The load capacitance can be chosen to be 10pF. But the shunt capacitance is too high.

Thanks, PM_Dialog

Hi Dialog,

Hi Dialog,

1) Thanks for clearing my doubt regarding this.
2) We will look into your suggested parts then. Thank you for getting back to us on this.

Hi

Hi

about DA14585, the 16M xtal driver level requirment is >100uW, but for XTAL,Is the driver level not as small as possible? why ?
