the coin cell battery voltage is pulled down when DA14580 transfer data

Hello

Sorry to bother you. I have a question about the DA14580, we use 1632 or 2032 coin cell battery to power our board and DA14580 Evaluation board, we found that when DA14580 is transfering data, the battery voltage will drop about 100-150mV, we test the power consumption of the board, the peak current is about 6mA when Bluetooth transfering data, it is not high, but why coin cell voltage will drop? when we use other power supply such as 2 AA battery, the voltage drop is very small , we can accept it.

as we have ADXL362 accelerator chip on the board, we found that because of this 100-150mV voltage drop when bluetooth transfer data, the ADXL362 has wrong data output.

we try to add a 100U or 220U electrolytic capacitor on the battery+ and GND, the voltage drop can be lower to about 50mV, then ADXL362 can work well. when use 47U or smaller capacitor, the voltage drop is still high than 50mV, ADXL362 still not work well.

problem is: using a 100U electrolytic capacitor is not practical as our product is very small, it also may cause other problem.

What you experince is expected, during the Rx and Tx a voltage drop of 100-150mV is expected.

The accelerometer you use is very sensitive, there is no way for the da to consume less power. Have you tried the decoupling teqniques that the ADXL362 suggests ? You have to improve your power management on your pcb.

I use one GPIO of DA14580 to power ADXL362, the GPIO voltage drop same as the battery voltage drop. I am not sure if I need use a LDO to power ADXL362

Should use mosfet to turn on

Should use mosfet to turn on direct battery voltage to accelerometer and use GPIO port to enable mosfet; should get higher voltage this way.

Hi, just to clear this up :

Hi, just to clear this up : the recommended way is to power directly from the cell (with / without a FET controlled by GPIO to turn off) or to use an LDO. Our new device, DA14680 has better capability here. IF you are still seeing a drop with direct conenction to battery (with / without FET), that woudl indicate a board decoupling problem. We use 100nF on our iOT sensor kit (Bosch Sensors) . BR JE_Dialog
