Certification requirements

我们已经建立了一个委员会DA14580-1和we were told that Dialog parts are pre-certified to use. After building the boards, we are planning to use these boards for engineering evaluation only and not for sales. Our compliance department is telling us to get boards certified before we can even power these on. Is this correct? Are there any ceritication from Dialog that we can allow us power on the boards before first obtaining certifications?

Interested in knowing also.

Interested in knowing also.

I would presume if not used commercially, you don't need intended RF radiation certs (FCC, ...)

If sold commercially, do we need to re-certify Bluetooth on a custom board ?

Hi MSun, sandeep

Hi MSun, sandeep

According to our team and our understanding regarding the FCC certification we have the following comments. FCC certification is a product oriented certification procedure and concerns end- products that will be put on the market for consumer use. The 58x is a Bluetooth Qualified SoC and is suitable for systems targeting compliance with worldwide radio frequency regulations (FCC, ETSI, ARIB etc). As far as the 58x SoC, there are already two RF modules reference designs with that fully meet FCC regulations:

  1. Trace Antenna PCB-http://support.dialog-semiconductor.com/connectivity/product/da14580( 580 with no external amplification)
  2. Range Extender -http://support.dialog-semiconductor.com/connectivity/product/da14580(580 +sky66111 PA of skyworks, enhanced power and range)

These RF modules have been granted with FCC certifications that allows Original Equipment Manufacturers to use them as they are without going through extra FCC certification. If the reference design is altered in any way you must go through a complementary FCC procedure. If the 580 SoC is integrated into an original RF module or another system and this module or system will be put on the market then all required FCC equipment authorization must be first obtained. Which means that in case you want to sell or distribute the RF module, into the market as a final product (a system that includes the 58x) you should go through the FCC certification procedure.

For engineering evaluation or systems that are going to be used only for development purposes, evaluation processes, measurement etc and are not meant to be put in the market, there is no need to get them certified (if you think that this evaluation module will later be used for mass production and commercial use as is then you should go through the certification procedure).

In any case you can always make an inquiry to FCC.

Thanks MT_Dialog.

Thanks MT_Dialog.

I am comfortable with your answer regarding FCC.

What about Bluetooth SIG type certifications. If we put DA14580 on a custom board do we need to do anything extra with regards to Bluetooth certification (outside of normal Bluetooth membership/licensing requirements) ?

Thanks.

Hi MSun,

Hi MSun,

Regarding the Bluetooth qualifications, please have a look at the following FAQ's
