Can we design a circuit supporting BUCK mode and BOOST mode at the same time?

Dear Sir:

We found that two schematics about BUCK mode and BOOT mode in the datasheet.
The two modes depends on battery voltage.

Can we design a circuit supporting BUCK mode and BOOST mode at the same time?
The concept is that BUCK mode is running when battery voltage is over 2.2v and BOOST mode is running when the same battery voltage reduces to under 2.2v and over 0.9v.
